Stock picking is a real skill. It is not a beginner skill, and it is not the default for most investors.
By Stage 10 you built a passive portfolio that beats roughly 90% of professional active managers over twenty years (the SPIVA evidence). is the choice to add stock picks on top of that. The question is not whether picking can work — for some people it does. The question is whether it will work for you, given your time, temperament, and access to information versus the professionals on the other side of every trade. Honest answer for most retail investors: probably not. Honest answer for some: maybe, with strict rules. This stage is the rules.
